St Mary’s is owned by the RC Diocese of Dunkeld and it is run by a Management Committee chaired by The Right Rev Stephen Robson.
St Mary’s Care Home is a former Cottage hospital that is situated in quiet grounds within the suburb of Monifieth, Dundee. There are shops and facilities in Monifieth along with good transport links to Dundee city centre and beyond.
St Mary’s is a deceptively large care home providing residential care for 30 elderly people. Accommodation is provided in 4 separate wings leading from a central lounge and dining room area. Accommodation consists of 19 bedrooms with en-suite shower rooms of varying sizes and 11 bedrooms with wash hand basins which have toilets nearby.
As part of our continual upgrading programme we have recently invested in a new sun lounge and also a palliative care room which is available for our residents and families should this be required. Within this upgrade, we have also renovated 4 bedrooms to include en-suite facilities.
Meals are served in our dining room where our chef provides a varied home cooked menu. Specific menu requirements can be catered for in order to meet resident needs. Home baking and fruit is provided with the various cups of tea and drinks throughout the day.
With a choice of lounges and the new sun room, residents can socialise with other residents if they wish or entertain family and friends. Our outside seating areas are popular in the warmer weather, and residents are encouraged to venture outside to enjoy the sunshine.
We have a daily programme of activities to provide a stimulating, pleasurable environment, should our residents wish to take advantage of this. Activities include quizzes, exercises, games etc.
We also have entertainers visiting the home on a regular basis. They are mainly singers with our residents singing along to their favourite tunes. Residents are encouraged to dance if they are able or just listen to the music.
We also have visits from animals giving the residents a chance to interact with them.
We have our own minibus which is used for regular outings varying from drives in the countryside to visits to local attractions.
Other facilities provided are a small hairdressing salon with 2 hairdressers visiting us weekly.
An in-house laundry providing a daily service for residents.
We have wifi available in some parts of the home and with investment in the near future we hope that all bedrooms and lounges will have this service.
A recently installed CCTV system adds further security to our home along with our secure entry system and private gardens.
Other services can be organised such as podiatry and physiotherapy depending on the resident requirements.
We employ well-trained staff, including care officers, care assistants and ancillary staff who provide 24 hour care.
At St Mary’s, we care for each resident in strict accordance with their individual care plan which is regularly reviewed and updated. Our team works under the supervision of Sheena Renton, our dedicated Home Manager who has many years’ experience in the care of our residents.
We have a close relationship with the local health professionals in the Monifieth Health Centre and doctors and district nurses visit on a regular basis.
We genuinely believe that promoting a healthy environment for our residents and supporting them to meet their needs enables them to achieve their maximum potential and provides them with a more fulfilling life in their new home.
