The Bishops’ Conference of Scotland has welcomed the appointment of Tammy Sandhu as the new Ambassador to the Holy See, following the formal presentation of her Letters of Credence to Pope Leo XIV in Rome.
Ms Sandhu succeeds Christopher Trott and brings considerable diplomatic experience to the role. She previously served as British Consul General in San Francisco and has held diplomatic posts in India, Brussels and Morocco, as well as serving in Iraq and Kenya. She joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 2005 and was awarded an MBE in 2021.
Congratulating the new Ambassador, Bishop John Keenan, President of the Bishops’ Conference of Scotland, said:
“On behalf of the bishops and the Catholic community in Scotland, I warmly congratulate Tammy Sandhu on her appointment and assure her of our prayers and very best wishes as she begins this important role.
“The relationship between the United Kingdom and the Holy See is an important and longstanding one, providing opportunities for dialogue and cooperation on many of the great challenges facing our world, including peace, human dignity, religious freedom and care for the most vulnerable.
“We wish Ambassador Sandhu every success in strengthening that relationship and look forward to working with her during her time in office.”
