Auxiliary Bishop planned for Glasgow

Press releases

Pope Francis has agreed to appoint an auxiliary bishop for Glasgow Archdiocese. The new bishop will assist Archbishop Philip Tartaglia (above) who turns 65 in January.

The archbishop asked Pope Francis for an auxiliary following his health scare earlier this year and he will be able to assist with the large numbers of Confirmations which will resume in 2017 when the revised order of the Sacraments takes effect.

It is understood that Archbishop Tartaglia had been given un-official confirmation of the new post a few weeks ago but officially broke the good news to the clergy of Glasgow first on his 40th anniversary and in an ad clerum letter this week.
