CanonSreenanPlease pray for the happy repose of the soul of Canon Hugh Sreenan, retired priest of the diocese, who has died. Canon Sreenan who was 83, had been a priest for almost 54 years. He studied for the priesthood in St. Mary’s Colege, Blairs, Seminaire St Sulpice, Paris; Royal Scots College, Valladolid and St Andrew’s College Drygrange. He was ordained priest 7th April 1962, by Bishop William Andrew Hart, St Andrew’s Cathedral, Dundee.

He served as curate in St Mary Magdalene’s, Perth (1962-1966) and Immaculate Conception, Dundee (1966-1974). He was Parish Priest in the following parishes: St Fergus’, Forfar (1974-1978); St Ninian’s, Dundee (1978-1982); St Serf’s, Highvalleyfield (1982-1988) and St Stephen’s, Blairgowrie (1988-2005)

He was made a member of the Cathedral Chapter of Canons in 1995. As well as his parish work he also served as Director of the Permanent Diaconate Programme in the diocese from 1995-2005. He retired from active ministry in 2005 and after a time living in Monifieth moved to Wellburn Home, where he died.
