A Diocesan Synodal Event ”Missionary disciples in a synodal Church: the future of faith in these islands” How does the Church thrive in an age where it is no longer supported by culture? Pope Francis and now Pope Leo have called us to embrace an “apostolic” way of being Christian, capable of evangelising our age of belief.

Austen Ivereigh, writer, papal biographer and synod “expert”, will explain how, through our popes, the Spirit has spoken to the Church today, and what this means for the way we operate today.

Austen Ivereigh is a British Catholic writer, commentator and journalist known for his biographies of Pope Francis and Let Us Dream, a bestselling 2020 book written in collaboration with him. His most recent book is First Belong to God: On Retreat with Pope Francis (2024).
He was the BBC “presenter’s friend” through the funeral of Pope Francis and the conclave that elected Pope Leo XIV. He was involved at each stage of the Synod on Synodality as an expert assisting with the drafting of documents and communication, is the author of many articles on synodality, and has given many talks and workshops on the synodal conversion of the Church.
The Diocesan Pastoral Centre, St Mary’s Church Hall Forebank Road, Dundee, DD1 2PB – Saturday 9 May 2026, 10am – 2.00pm Keynote Speaker (Live online): Dr Austen Ivereigh
