The Bishops’ Conference of Scotland has warmly congratulated Lady Rita Rae on her appointment as a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in The King’s New Year’s Honours List.
Lady Rae is recognised for her outstanding service to the Catholic Church in Scotland, particularly through her leadership as Chair of the Catholic Safeguarding Standards Agency and her long-standing commitment to the protection of children and vulnerable people. She has also served on the national tribunal, supported adoption and family services, and contributed to Catholic communications.
Her distinguished public career includes service as a Senator of the College of Justice and High Court judge, as well as being the first working female Rector of the University of Glasgow.
A spokesperson for the Diocese of Dunkeld added: “Lady Rae’s contribution has had a lasting and positive impact on the life of the Church in Scotland. The Diocese of Dunkeld joins in giving thanks for her work and offering prayers as she receives this well-earned honour.”
