Perth’s IHM Sisters welcome Mother Superior

Fr Elias Gweme CSsR and the parish community of St. John the Baptist RC Church, Perth, were delighted to welcome the Superior General of the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Mother of Christ, Rev. Dr. Mother Maureen Akabogu, on Wednesday, 23rd July 2025.

Rev. Mother Maureen was visiting the Sisters who have been based in the St Ninian’s Convent, Perth, for the past 3 years. The Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Mother of Christ, are an international congregation with communities across the globe, dedicated to education, healthcare, pastoral care, and missionary work.

During her visit, Rev. Mother joined parishioners for Holy Mass to celebrate the Feast of St Bridget of Sweden, one of the Patronesses of Europe. The joyful celebration was followed by a warm gathering in the parish hall over a cup of tea, where parishioners had the opportunity to meet and greet Rev. Mother Maureen personally.

“We are honoured to receive the Superior General here in Perth,” said Fr Elias. “The Sisters have become an important part of our community, and we give thanks for their presence, witness, and service among us.”
