Support call for Scotland Demands Better March and Rally

Justice and Peace

Justice & Peace Scotland has announced its support for the Scotland Demands Better campaign, a new national movement coordinated by the Poverty Alliance and backed by more than 100 organisations across the country.

The campaign highlights the stark reality that over one million people in Scotland are currently living in poverty and calls for urgent action. Its central demands include: better jobs, better investment in essentials, and a stronger social security system — all framed around the principles of dignity and the common good.

Susan McAllion, a parishioner of St Columba’s Kirkton in Dundee and diocesan representative on the Scottish Justice & Peace Commission, said:

“Justice & Peace Scotland is proud to stand alongside the Poverty Alliance and so many other organisations in calling for change. We believe every person should be able to live with dignity. The Scotland Demands Better campaign speaks directly to the vision of Catholic Social Teaching — putting human dignity and the common good at the centre of society.”

As part of the campaign, Justice & Peace Scotland will take part in the Scotland Demands Better March and Rally in Edinburgh on Saturday 25th October.

The march will set off from the Scottish Parliament between 9.30 and 10am, proceeding up the Royal Mile and along George IV Bridge before reaching the Meadows. A family-friendly rally with live music, speeches, and entertainment will follow.

“We would love to see as many people as possible join us,” Susan added. “Please look out for the Justice & Peace Scotland banner, and check our social media channels for final meeting point details.”
