Two new Canons in Dunkeld

Press releases

Fr Steven Mulholland and Fr Tom Shields have been appointed Canons of Dunkeld Diocese by Bishop Stephen Robson.

On Fr Steven’s appointment as an honorary Canon, Bishop Stephen said, “I wish to thank him particularly for his diligence, patience and hard work in the delicate area of ecumenical and inter-religious dialogue.”

“For the past 5 years Fr Steven has represented me at diocesan and at national level on various ecumenical bodies and commissions dealing with inter-religious dialogue. This is Fr Steven’s area of expertise and he goes about his ecumenical work with quietness and great diligence, always faithful to the magisterium, open to the various dialogue partners.”

Appointing Fr Tom Shields as an honorary Canon, Bishop Stephen said, “He has been doing an excellent job for the diocese as Vicar Episcopal for Education. Fr Tom is intelligent, clear headed and loyal to the principles of Catholic education. He is supportive of all who work in the educational sector and I have decided to appoint him as an Honorary Canon as this will help him in his relationships with those officials at national and local government level with whom he has to work.”

“We also congratulate him on being appointed an honorary Lecturer in Glasgow University School of Education.”
