Dunkeld Lourdes Service (DLS) recently held our second Fundraising Ball in the Apex Hotel Dundee. The event was very well attended with guests from every part of the Dunkeld Pilgrimage – Clergy, Pilgrims, Assisted Pilgrims, Musicians and of course the DLS Yellow T-shirts. An excellent night was had by all and this was helped by the wonderful entertainment provided by local band “Eat the Peach” in one of their final appearances.
On the night almost £2,000 was raised through raffles, a chocolate tombola and an auction and we sincerely thank Eve’s Foundation; The Tom and May Clark Legacy Award; Marian’s Boutique; Sandra Thomson; Bellsquarry Dentist; City Quay Dentists; Arnold Clark and all those who donated prizes or monetary gifts.

Our Yellow T-shirts (volunteer helpers for our assisted pilgrims) give up part of their summer holidays to support our Lourdes pilgrims; and this year, each Yellow T-shirt volunteer paid £800 for the privilege of doing so. It is such a rewarding experience that they would say “cheap at the price”. In our current financial climate, however, we foresee that everything will be much more expensive next year and all of the funds raised at the Ball will help ensure that we can continue to subsidise those costs and still offer a full service to our pilgrims.
Dunkeld Lourdes Service works to support those pilgrims who may find it difficult to fully participate in all of our Pilgrimage events. This may be due to illness or infirmity, or simply because walking and standing for any length of time in France in July can be arduous – this year we had temperatures reaching almost 40°C!!
Our next DLS fundraising activity is a Christmas raffle, and we also run a 100 Club where membership is £5 per month.
