Appeal is launched to repair Dunkeld’s historic gravestone

Press releases

The headstone of the Bishops and Clergy of Dunkeld Diocese is in urgent need of restoration. The historic stone, set high at the top of Dundee’s Balgay Cemetery, marks the resting place of six of Dunkeld’s Bishops – + Angus MacFarlane (1901-12), + Robert Fraser (1913-14), + James McGuire (Coadjutor 1939-44), + John Toner (1914-49), + William Andrew Hart (1955-1981), + Vincent Logan (1981-2012) together with 19 other priests who served in the city and beyond.

The restoration work will include re-securing the foundations; repairing, cleaning and resetting the marble and refreshing the inscriptions involving over 1000 characters of text.

The estimated cost of this work is in the region of £25,000.
