Please read on for a selection of items from this week’s parish newsletters in the Diocese of Dunkeld, offering a snapshot of life around our diocese.
St. Fergus (Forfar) and St. Anthony (Kirriemuir)
FACT are holding Lenten Lunches and Studies again this year, in the East and Old Church. There is a poster at the back of the church with details of dates but the important one for us is 27th March as we are the hosts that day. Please put this date in your diary as I will be asking for donations of soup and helpers for that Friday. We also hope that you will go to other Fridays hosted by other churches as all money raised goes to charities. This year’s charities are: “The Inspirational Orchestra” and “The Salvation Army”. Remember the 27th March.
A number of parishioners welcomed an opportunity to have a short walk and a chat as part of Murton Farm’s Health walks held every 3rd Wednesday of the month. If you come regularly or have never been before, please join in for a circular walk taking less than an hour, all abilities catered for, totally free including a cuppa afterwards.
St. Mary (Lochee)
The Parish’s profound thanks to Helen Band and choir who performed at St Mary’s on Friday evening. Helen is one of the foremost composers of sacred music in Scotland and her generosity towards St Mary’s Restoration has been exceptional. Thanks also to Mrs Curran and St Mary’s P.S. choir whose voices raised our hearts and minds to God in joy.

Its time again for the Cafod (SCIAF) Big Lent Walk. Last year St Clements raised £1046 in sponsorship. 200kms to be walked during Lent but we can again make teams of 5 each doing 40 kms if you can’t do it yourself. We can also again arrange a few group walks. If you are interested please speak to Bernadette Dailly.
St. Joseph (Wilkie’s Lane)
Salem’s 5th birthday celebration and ‘Fix-it’ raffle raised £573, which is a fantastic amount. The family would like to thank all parishioners, friends, visitors and invited guests for their love and support in helping to make this such a special day. Many thanks to Fr Michael, the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and to all those who assisted in the preparations.
St. Ninian (Menzieshill)
Jim Hampton has been invited to become a member of the Bishops’ Conference Care of Creation group, which looks at various issues under the banner of Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si. Over a number of years, Jim’s expertise and knowledge on energy matters, and the success of St. Ninian’s parish with Eco-Congregation Scotland’s Gold Award will prove invaluable to the group.
Our Lady of Sorrows (Dundee)
St. Patrick’s social night on Friday 13th March. Doors open 6.30pm, bingo flyer 7.00pm. £5 per ticket including buffet (bring your own booze!).
St. Andrew’s Cathedral, Our Lady of Good Counsel, St. Patrick and St. Mary (Forebank)
A huge thank you to everyone who supported the quiz night in St. Patrick’s Church Hall, with cash contributions, auction items and raffle prize donations – the evening was a huge success. The final total raised was £1,362 – an amazing effort from everyone involved and a great stepping stone towards our target of £40,000 for the Celtic FC Foundation Recovery Café. A special thank you to quizmaster Mark Dolan, who ‘curated quite a sublime quiz’ according to one of the attendees on the night!
You can still sponsor John Quinn, who is walking 240km over the 40 days of Lent to raise funds for SCIAF. Sponsorship forms are available at the back of each of the 4 churches in our cluster.
St. Fillan (Crieff)
During this Lenten Season, there will be Stations of the Cross every Friday in St. Fillan’s Church, Crieff at 7.00pm. All are welcome.
Our Lady of Perpetual Succour (Auchterarder)
A message from Fr Garry Jenkins in Liberia. He has been at the University of Liberia in Fendell, just outside Monrovia, to witness the oath-taking of James Nyanku, who graduated as a medical doctor last week. James is the first to graduate as a doctor from Fr Garry’s scholarship programme. He thanks Our Lady’s parishioners for past and continued support and prayers, and in helping to fund the programme.
St. James (Kinross)
Nepal Coffee Morning (14th March). Donations of prizes for the raffle and tombola, along with home baking would be very welcome from parishioners. The children of the parish will also be running their own Lenten almsgiving stall at the coffee morning. Please come along to support this extremely worthwhile cause!
