Notes from the liturgical calendar: St Patrick (385-461) Was kidnapped while very young and taken to Ireland, where he was put to work looking after sheep. On the lonely hillsides, he learned to pray. He escaped, already within him a call to priesthood. There was also an insistent call to return to Ireland, and he spent the rest of his life there, building up the Kingdom of Christ. He was fearless in facing opposition from powerful Pagan rulers; he practiced regular penance, which became a strong feature of Irish monasticism; he instilled a missionary spirit which has lasted to the present day.  St Cyril of Jerusalem (315-386) Became Bishop of Jerusalem in 348. We can still read today his catechetical lectures, talks to people seeking to enter the Church, full of instruction but with a warm pastoral style. He had to be firm against the Arian heresy. Some of our Holy Week practices, particularly the kissing of the cross, can be traced to what he did in Jerusalem.

Our Lady of Good Counsel, Broughty Ferry

Thursday 19th March: Lazarus, come out!  The final ‘sign’ of Jesus in John?  At 6.30pm in Our Lady of Good Counsel, Westfield Rd, Broughty Ferry.  Once again, we had a very enjoyable sharing session last Thursday in the synodal style of ‘Conversations in the Spirit’ espoused by Pope Francis.  I invite you to come along this Thursday and take part.  Please bring a Bible with you, if you have one.  The session lasts one hour.  Mass beforehand at 5.50pm.

Our Lady Star of the Sea, Tayport

World Day of Prayer: many thanks to Sheila McRobbie and her team of parishioners at Our Lady’s, and to members of the Tayport congregations who were able to give their time and talents at this year’s World Day of Prayer service held on 6th March.  It was a very thoughtful service, enhanced by the excellent singing and end-of-service hospitality.
