Cecilian Choir – Stainer’s Crucifixion

Events

Join the Cecilian Choir at St Andrew’s RC Cathedral, Nethergate, Dundee on Monday 30th March at 7pm as they perform The Crucifixion, bringing this masterpiece to the Diocese of Dunkeld as it prepares for Easter.

Sir John Stainer’s The Crucifixion: A Meditation on the Sacred Passion of the Holy Redeemer is one of the most enduring and widely performed choral works in the English-speaking world.

Composed in 1887, it was designed as a liturgical tool for Passiontide, leading up to Easter. Its significance in Easter preparation lies in its function as a communal “meditation” rather than just a concert piece.
