Bishop Stephen has announced the appointment of the important post of Vicar Episcopal for Education, in succession to Mgr Ken McCaffrey. The new Vicar Episcopal will be Fr Tom Shields PhB STL PhD. Fr Tom will be eminently qualified for this post with his academic and pastoral background and be able to fullfil this ministry of support in the Diocese for Catholic Education with distinction.
Fr Tom will be responsible for all activities and personnel relating to Catholic Education, our Primary Advisor, Secondary Advisor, Church representatives and pastoral and spiritual support and formation services for Catholic Schools, including relations with Head Teachers, teaching staff and parents.
Announcing the appointment, Bishop Stephen said, “I thank Fr Tom for agreeing to embrace this onerous task and continue to thank Mgr McCaffrey for his support and work in the past for our Catholic Education institutions. He will begin his ministry in earnest once the schools return after the summer break.”
