Alpha – thank you and what’s next: A heartfelt thank you to everyone who took part in, supported, or helped with our recent Alpha Course at Our Lady of Lourdes. It has been a real blessing and a wonderful experience of faith, friendship, hospitality and open conversation. We hope to build on this momentum by continuing Alpha in the future and developing a stronger culture of welcome, personal invitation and reaching out beyond our parish community. A short de brief will take place after Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes on Tuesday 25 August, when we will reflect on what went well, what we can improve, and consider future Alpha courses at both Our Lady of Lourdes and St Mary Magdalene’s.

Common Priesthood of the Baptised: At Holy Mass we are called to unite our own hearts and lives to the offering made by the ordained priest. We should see in the offering of the bread and wine, our own cares and concerns. Whatever is going on in our own lives, whatever purification we might need, whatever struggles we might be having, we bring all of this and spiritually unite it not just with the priest’s offering, but with the offering of all the baptised in the Church. And this “Church” extends not just to the people in the pews, but to the universal Church. All our offerings, of our lives, are caught up together, as the common priesthood of all the baptised, join with the ordained priests in this great act of worship. All the Baptised need a deeper awareness of the fact that you too are called to join in the offering of the Eucharist. This is one of the great truths of the Second Vatican Council that needs more emphasis.
